How Do Oil and Natural Gas "go" to All Corners of the World?
People who exploit oil often say, "Where you find oil is not where you use it." Generally speaking, most oil and gas fields are distributed in vast wilderness, grassland, desert and boundless ocean, while oil refineries, especially oil and gas consumption markets are in densely populated, economically developed large and medium-sized cities and surrounding areas, which may be hundreds or even thousands of kilometers apart. Globally, oil is the world's most traded commodity, accounting for more than half of all shipments. In 1996, the total volume of world oil trade was 1.91 billion tons, accounting for 60.4% of total oil production. The volume of natural gas traded in the same year was 422.4 billion cubic meters, accounting for 18.1% of annual production. How can so much oil and gas be transported all the way around the world? Different approaches can be taken in different situations.
When two places are separated by deeper and wider waters, such as deep-sea oil and gas fields, international sea transportation, etc., ships are usually used, including tankers and oil barges. The former is self-propelled while the latter is towed by tugs. Shipping must be equipped with oil port, oil terminal and loading and unloading equipment.
The Middle East, Russia, Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia are the world's main oil export areas, and Western Europe, the United States and Japan are the main import areas, the world's large oil fleet frequently back and forth between the two, opened up a lot of sea routes. For example, the Persian Gulf -- Cape of Good Hope -- Western Europe and the United States are the busiest oil transportation routes in the world, with an annual transportation volume of more than 400 million tons. The world's largest tanker by tonnage is Japan's 560,000 ton supertanker built in 1981. The world's largest oil import port is located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with 68 oil terminals, a total length of 66 kilometers, 300,000 tons of tankers can be unloaded in 20 hours.
Pipeline transportation is the main way of fluid transportation on land and offshore. For oil and gas pipelines, oil (gas) stations, heating stations, metering stations and oil (gas) storage tanks, etc. Pipeline transportation has the characteristics of fast construction, less occupation, large volume, low cost, small pollution, safe and reliable and continuous flow, so where can build pipelines will try to use pipeline transportation. At present, the oil and gas pipelines in many countries or regions have formed pipe networks, which really become the "underground arteries" to ensure the development of national economy.
Vehicle transportation includes train tanker and oil tanker trailer, which is the main auxiliary means of pipeline transportation.
Trains were the main means of transporting large amounts of oil over long distances in the early days. Later, with the increase of oil production and the development of large-caliber long-distance pipelines, the proportion of oil transport by train gradually decreased to that by pipeline. For example, in 1970, China transported 34 million tons of crude oil, 61.1% of which were carried by trains and 26.2% by pipelines. In 1987, the total volume of transportation increased to 194 million tons, with trains falling to 8.1 percent and pipelines rising to 62.4 percent. Automobile is a flexible and convenient means of transportation, suitable for short, small, scattered oil and gas transportation, long-distance transportation costs are too high. For example, before the completion of the Pipeline from Golmud in Qinghai province to Lhasa in Tibet, refined oil products were transported from Qinghai to Tibet by car, consuming 1/3 of the oil transported on the road.
Natural gas usually has to be transported by pipeline. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) can be piped or shipped or trucked. But now the land transportation of natural gas is generally transported by natural gas truck (LNG tanker trailer), we specialize in the production of natural gas tank trailer, there are many kinds of specifications, we have contributed to the cause of natural gas transportation.
